Text Box: On Saturday September 29, a beautiful fall morning, 32 people (8 teams) began their day golfing at the Dragonfly Golf Links as participants in the Renfrew Curling Club’s annual “Sweep and Putt”. Following nine holes of golf, the teams made their way to the curling club for six ends of curling – everyone anxious to be the first to try out the newly flooded ice. For many people, this event signals the end of the golfing season and heralds the start of a new curling season.
After all the scores were tallied, the team skipped by Brodie Langlois emerged as the winners. Other members of the winning team included Chris Douglas as vice, Spencer Eady as second and Kris Neuman as lead. The team skipped by Leo McCallum were the runners-up. Other individuals recognized for their accomplishments were as follows:
Closest to the Pin Ladies: Jane Hunter
Closest to the Pin Men: Jerry Falls
Longest Drive Ladies: Allyson Roy
Longest Drive Men: Karl Mann
Following the awarding of prizes, participants enjoyed a delicious roast beef dinner at the curling club.
For many curlers, the regular season of play will begin in the next couple of weeks. However, it is still not too late to join. New members are always welcome and no experience is necessary. For more information call the Renfrew Curling Club at 613-432-5001.
